The VTC's Special Design Creates Special Advantages
Mazak designed the VTC to have all the power and speed it needs for the widest variety of workpiece materials.

These features alone make the VTC Series the fastest, most powerful vertical in its class. But take a closer look at the VTC construction itself.

"VTC" stands for "Vertical Traveling Column". The table on the VTC never moves; it is an extenstion of the solid, one-piece meehanite cast base. The X,Y and Z axes of motion all come off of the column-- a known weight around which Mazak engineered the machine. With this traveling column design, Mazak has created the following special advantages found only in the VTC:

• Highest table load capacity - Part and fixture weight go right into the solid, one-piece cast base and into floor, giving the VTC the best table load capacity in its class.
• Accuracy is unaffected by off-center or heavy parts - Part's weight does NOT need to be evenly displaced over the table. Since the part never moves, it creates no inertia.
• Part/fixture overhang over chip pan creates no concerns - Programming and fixturing are simplified, since nothing can move into the sheet metal.
• Accessibility to work area - No Y-axis way cover distances the operator from the work area thus reducing operator fatigue from bending. Overhead, there is no interference.
• Tool magazine(s) is (are) completely out of work area - Long tools in the ATC do not interfere with tall fixtures/parts on the table, like they do on all of our competitors machines. This also means less chips and less coolant can bounce up into the ATC.
• Traveling head can move from OP-10 to OP-20, etc. - The longer VTC-16C and VTC-20C operate like pallet changing verticals. With a left and a right ATC, these machines have twin area machining capabilities highlighted below.

Full Table or Pallet Changer - It's up to You
The traveling column of the VTC goes to the workpiece, wherever it is on the table. The column also travels to the ATC for toolchanges. Imagine a longer VTC which has tool changers at both the left and right sides, and a partition down the middle of the table. On the left side of this partition, imagine loading operation 10 while on the right side, the VTC is cutting operation 20. Once OP-20 is completed, the VTC stores the tool in the right ATC and travels around the partition to the left ATC, grabs a tool and starts on OP-10 all over again.
